Alumni run for officeWhen the fall issue of La Follette Notes went to press, two La Follette School alumni were campaigning for state office in the November 7 election. 2001 graduate Gordon Hintz won his race to become the first Democrat in 20 years to represent the Oshkosh area in the Assembly. Hintz defeated Julie Pung Leschke to replace Gregg Underheim, who chose not to run again after 18 years in the Assembly. Hintz earned 13,353 votes to Leschke's 8,111. 2006 graduate Jamie Aulik lost his bid to incumbent Sen. Joe Leibham of the 9th District Senate seat. Aulik picked up 26,592 votes to Leibham's 39,008. Hintz and Aulik both hold master of public affairs degrees, and both grew up in the areas where they ran for office.
