Alumni and friends of the La Follette School can catch up with each other, and talk with students, faculty and staff at the schools annual reception on Thursday, February 8, in Madison. 1997 grad joins Congressional Budget Office as deputy general counsel
If the policy analysis Mark Hadley worked on in spring 1996 as a La Follette School student had been for his current employer, the Congressional Budget Office, he and his team most likely would have lost their jobs. Read more

Hardly a work week goes by when Kristin Hershbell Charles isnt reminded of the value of her La Follette School of Public Affairs education. Read more

Governor name 3 alumni to top posts
Three La Follette School alumni have been appointed to top positions by Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. Sean Dilweg (class of 1998) is the new commissioner of insurance, and Kevin Hayden (class of 1984) is the new secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services. In addition, Randy Romanski (class of 1995) has been appointed as executive assistant at the state Department of Natural Resources. Read more

Alum publishes collection of essays on miscarriage
Alum Jessica Berger Gross is filling an important gap in the literature. Her first book, "About What Was Lost: Twenty Writers on Miscarriage, Healing, and Hope," was released by Plume in December. Read more

Alumni run for office
2001 graduate Gordon Hintz won his Wisconsin Assembly race while 2006 graduate Jamie Aulik lost his bid for a seat in the Wisconsin Senate. Read more

Internship puts public affairs student to work on international legal affairs
Jamisen Rueckert got a taste of her dream job last summer and an idea of what it takes to land it permanently some day. The La Follette School student interned with the Commercial Law Development Program, housed in the U.S. Department of Commerce's Office of the General Counsel in Washington, D.C. A gift from a friend of the school helped make this possible. Read more

Four students win language fellowships
Four international public affairs students have won Foreign Language and Area Studies Graduate Fellowships from the U.S. Department of Education. Read more

Second-year La Follette School students spend their summers around the world applying what theyve learned. Read more

Student works on California lawsuit against Schwarzenegger
Callie Gray spent the summer of 2006 suing California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger -- well, actually, her employer, the Drug Policy Alliance in San Francisco sued him, but Grays boss told her she should write that on her resume. Read more

La Follette hosts APPAMs national research conference
The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management held its national fall research conference in Madison, with the La Follette School as host. Scholars and public policy practitioners -- alumni among them -- came from around the world to learn about research dedicated to improving public policy. Read more

La Follette School expands relationships with China
Through staff outreach, faculty research and presentations, and student capstone projects, the La Follette School is building connections with China and its people. Read more

Ex-career services coordinator honored
Wisconsin Assembly member Terese Berceau, who served as La Follette School career services coordinator in the mid-1990s, was named 2006 Stateswoman of the Year by the Wisconsin Women's Network. Read more
