Shirts marking the 100th official birthday of the Wisconsin Idea are available from the La Follette School Student Association.
"The Wisconsin Idea was borne out of a collective interest for strengthening the ties between the University of Wisconsin, the state government and the people of the Wisconsin," says Andrew Walsh, LSSA fund-raising coordinator. "The Wisconsin Idea encourages collaboration among these stakeholders to provide discourse about, and solutions to, relevant public concerns; today, the Wisconsin Idea is realized through economic and agricultural extension services, continuing conversations about matters of social policy, and research programs relevant to local and state matters." The full extent of the Wisconsin Idea was presented in Charles McCarthy’s 1912 book, The Wisconsin Idea. Google Books has the entire digitized version available.
To celebrate this landmark birthday, LSSA has created a commemorative design that will be printed on cardinal red Hanes T-shirts and sweatshirts. T-shirts are $15; long-sleeved T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts are $25.
Anyone with interest in wearing their Wisconsin pride is welcome to place an order. To order, download the order form, fill it out and send it to Walsh by email. Shirts can be delivered to downtown Madison or campus locations; they can also be picked up at the La Follette School. For those living farther away, orders can be shipped. Any questions can be directed to Walsh, email@example.com.
