La Follette School students will visit the Wisconsin Legislative Audit Bureau on Friday, January 27, at 3 p.m. to learn about employment opportunities.
LAB program evaluation director Kate Wade will lead the session, and students will hear from La Follette School alumni and state auditor Joe Chrisman.
“The trip will be a great networking opportunity for all La Follette students, both first- and second-year,” says Hope Harvey, the trip’s organizer.
Students interested in attending should contact Harvey, hmharvey@wisc.edu, so she can get a head count for LAB staff.
The Legislative Audit Bureau is a non-partisan legislative service agency that assists the Legislature with oversight of state operations. The bureau conducts objective audits and evaluations of state agency operations to ensure financial transactions have been made in a legal and proper manner and to determine whether programs are administered effectively, efficiently and in accordance with the policies of the Legislature and the governor. The results of these evaluations are provided to the Legislature, along with recommendations for improvements in agency operations.
Many La Follette School alumni work or have worked for the LAB, including Liz Drilias, Tom Hinds, Jake Schindler, Jennie Mauer and Marci McCoy-Roth.
In addition, LAB representatives will be at the campus Public Service Career Fair on Thursday, January 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memorial Union. La Follette School students are encouraged to stop by the LAB’s location to introduce themselves to LAB analysts and La Follette School alumni Joe Fontaine and McKinney Austin and ask questions. Other public and private sector agencies will be at the fair, including the U.S. Department of State and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Participants are listed online.
