Alum Lisa Ellinger will speak at the Thursday, November 20, Policy After Work Series at Broacach, 7 West Main, from 5-7 p.m.
Ellinger will speak about her experience at La Follette and her career path since 2003, when she completed a Master of Public Affairs degree. She is administrator for the Division of Insurance Services of the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds. The Division of Insurance Services oversees the administration of health care, life and disability benefits for nearly 230,000 state and local government employees in Wisconsin.
Prior to joining the division in January 2008, Ellinger was the assistant director of the Wisconsin Health Project from 2004-2007. The project developed a bipartisan health-care reform proposal introduced in the Legislature in 2005. The Wisconsin Health Project also worked with legislators on the development of a universal health care proposal unveiled in 2007. She served as a policy advisor on the Wisconsin governor's staff in 2003-04 and was the lead staff in the creation and development the governor's KidsFirst initiative. She earlier worked as a legislative research assistant in the Senate and Assembly. She attended La Follette part time from 1998-2003 while working in the Legislature.
