Andy Katz, an ESPN college basketball writer and UW-Madison alum, is this year's fall writer in residence. During his visit he spoke in several classes around campus, including PA 880, about sports economics, journalism, and law while still finding time for some Final Four predictions. He also went out to dinner with professors and students from La Follette.
Katz began working as a college basketball writer for ESPN.com in 2000 after working as a sports reporter at several newspapers. His role at ESPN has expanded from writing for the website to include hosting college basketball programs on ESPN's family of networks during the college basketball season. In addition to these responsibilities, Katz also hosts a podcast with Rick Klein called Capital Games about the intersection of sports and politics. Katz has a history of covering both these topics. He has interviewed President Obama about his NCAA tournament bracket since the president was elected.
Second year MPA Nick Lardinois said of the visit, “It was really great to meet Andy. Hearing about him playing basketball with President Obama on the day he was elected president was a cool story and a different look at a historic day.”
