The La Follette School Student Association is launching a penny war on Tuesday, October 14, to raise money for Doctors without Borders through the university's Partners in Giving campaign.
"Containers will be placed for each team in the Social Sciences lounge and in the La Follette house basement," says Gabrielle Elzinga-Marshall, LSSA volunteer co-coordinator. "Pennies count for positive points, but other coins and dollars count negatively, so fill your opponents' containers with other coins/dollar bills."
Teams are as follows:
- Team 1: first-year students in the Master of Public Affairs degree program
- Team 2: second-year MPAs
- Team 3: all students in the Master of International Public Affairs degree program
- Team 4: faculty and staff
"First-year MPAs won last year," Elzinga-Marshall says. "Will the second-year MPAs be able to maintain their title, or will someone unseat them?"
"We are raising the funds for Doctors without Borders since they've been doing some really great work in helping to fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa," Elzinga-Marshall says.
