Summer internships took La Follette School students to Germany, California, Missouri, Chicago, India, Washington, D.C., and other locations during 2017. Several students stayed in Wisconsin, gaining valuable experience at government agencies, with nonprofit organizations, and in the private sector.

Cassie Frankel, a second-year student at the La Follette School of Public Affairs received a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship for the 2017–18 academic year. Frankel will use the fellowship to study Arabic through UW–Madison’s Center for European Studies.

My internship at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) gave me the opportunity to work for a quasi-federal agency and gain valuable experience evaluating bank regulations, risk-management strategies, and consumer protection practices.

I chose the La Follette School because it was highly ranked (particularly in social policy), affordable (particularly with the fellowship), practitioner-focused, and evidence-based.

Seven La Follette School students learned the intricacies of federal program evaluation and auditing at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) this summer. They also experienced the tight group of La Follette School alumni in and around the nation’s capital – known as the DC Bobs.
