The La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has carried out an orientation for newly elected members of the Wisconsin Legislature for every two years since 1991 in a partnership with the Wisconsin Joint Legislative Council. La Follette School faculty brief legislators on policy issues and research findings that inform legislative decision-making. Except for the dozen or so elected before La Follette's partnership with the Legislative Council, every lawmaker serving in the Legislature in the middle of the first decade of the 21st century has been been included in these briefings.

Organized by the La Follette's Outreach Office, the orientation is part of the schools outreach program to share research on public policy with the people who make that policy. The Legislature established the school in 1984 with the mission of teaching, researching public policy and conducting outreach.
