Public Policy Issues Beyond the Microscope

This half-day symposium will explore the public policy issues related to stem-cell research, including the legal, regulatory and legislative environment that affects how pioneering research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is conducted. How public policy issues related to stem-cell research are addressed will affect other scientific advances.

Welcome and Introduction from Barbara (Bobbi) Wolfe, director of the La Follette School of Public Affairs

1:15-2:00  p.m.
Carl Gulbrandsen, managing director of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and director of WiCell Research Institute, will speak about the history of stem cell research at UW-Madison and provide an overview of current research, patenting, and licensing issues.

2:00-2:15  p.m. Break: Refreshments will be served in the lobby outside the auditorium.
