The La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison published its second annual Highlights report in November 2018. The document showcases the many achievements of the school’s students, faculty, alumni, and staff during the 2017-18 academic year.
Sections on teaching and learning, research, outreach and the Wisconsin Idea, and alumni in action emphasize the depth and breadth of the school’s reach. For example, the La Follette School reached nearly half (65) of the 132 state legislative offices through the Family Impact Seminars, Committee Connect, and Office Hours at the Capitol during the previous academic year.
The document also includes details about the Herb Kohl Public Service Research Competition, a $1.5 million, five-year pledge from former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl to support nonpartisan research that informs critical governance debates. Since 2016, the Kohl Competition has supported research by 12 faculty members and provided learning opportunities to nine students who served as project assistants.
In addition, six of the La Follette School’s impressive alumni also are featured: Jason Gerlach (MA, JD '96), Ruanda McFerren (MPA , MS '18), Michael Rodriguez (MPA, MS '09), Raul Leon (MPA '07), Daniel Speckhard (MA '82), and Alexis MacDonald (MPA '08).
