Mike Beland, a managing director at Deloitte & Touche LLP, will discuss career opportunities at Deloitte, a private-sector consulting company, as well as his previous government work. Beland received his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2001 and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2004.
A nationally recognized homeland and national security expert, Beland advises public- and private-sector clients on physical and cyber security risks. He also is chair of the Maryland Center on Economic Policy’s Board of Directors.
Beland previously held senior positions in the legislative and executive branches of the U.S. government, including chief of staff of the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Infrastructure Protection where he helped to lead the management and policy development of the 1,000-person organization.
As an attorney for the Committee on Homeland Security in the U.S. House of Representatives, he helped author several pieces of legislation, including the Implementing the Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007, the Chemical Facility Security Act of 2009, and the Transportation Security Administration Authorization Act of 2009.
