Yackee uncovers rulemaking process

Susan Yackee is shining light into the back room of the White House where policymakers often make key decisions. The La Follette School political scientist is applying her expertise in administrative rulemaking to the president's Office of Management and Budget.

Students can learn more about finding and applying  for positions with the U.S. government in a seminar on Tuesday, March 4, in the  La Follette School conference room from noon to 2 p.m. Marie Koko of the College  of Letters and Science career services office also will discuss how to write  resumes to best target federal positions.
President Barack Obama has nominated La Follette School professor Maria Cancian for assistant secretary for children and families (family support) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

With nearly every regulation that crosses Patrick Fuchs' desk at the Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President, he uses what he learned in the La Follette School's policy analysis and microeconomics courses.

Income inequality is on the rise, according to a national report card co-authored by La Follette School professor Timothy Smeeding, director of the Institute for Research on Poverty.
